I like to wear my babies and have at least 5 different contraptions to do so. I think the kids are also catching on to the trend because this is what William did with Daddy's Blackberry case.
There is something so funny and cute about the image- a softer side to a blackberry. It also made me think about some young girls, maybe ages 7-10, I saw at the playground. They were sitting up top on the monkey bars talking on and playing with their i phones. I've also heard of children as young as 6 years old with their own blackberries - just to keep in touch with parents.
Maybe I should invent "stuffie technology" - it would look somewhat like William's teeny beanie baby, "Baby Tito", except you could lift a flap on the belly to expose a key pad and screen. That way kids could still be kids and enjoy the use of gadgets and technology. When they were at the playground they could actually play with their phones and if they were in need of a little extra comfort from their parents not only could they read the loving text but also snuggle with the soft device that delivered the message.
Actually I believe in low tech toys and more primitive forms of communication such as looking at someone in the eyes and listening to their voice. But I am glad Daddy has a blackberry to help him get his work done and even more impressed that William was able to find some fun with it.

I like the soft gadget idea, although I don't know if I would trust my kids with expensive gadget built in a soft toy. They tend to throw such things than hold them close for comfort. Great for your boys, though.

ReplyDeleteI really don't trust my kids with any sorts of expensive gadget....but it's not just the expense - I want to keep them real and a bit grounded.
Can you believe such young kids with phones and blackberries?
I don't know if you can tell from my tone but I do hold a bit of a grudge against blackberries...that is why I was so amused with William - it was cute unlike the annoyance of the actual blackberry.
I despise blackberries and was so glad when Steve got rid of it - it was ruining our life! Well, not really but so annoying! William is such a cutie!
ReplyDeleteAl, I love the post! I'm with you. I believe in outdoor play, socialization, face to face conversations, and good book reading. I'm always amazed at kids Griffin's age (4 1/2) who spend two hours (or more!) on the computer every night. Personally, I miss Griff during the day while I work and I love having the time with him in the evening. We go to the park, we swim in the pool, we ride bikes, and, sometimes, just wrestle on the floor. Family game night is fun too! It's nice to see that I'm not the only mom in our age group who isn't pushing technology on our kids every waking hour. They will get enough of that as they age...what's wrong with imagination?
ReplyDeleteI'll get off my soap box now!

I can't agree more. I try not to give anything to our kids that makes them lazy and not creative. I think kids grow up to be happier adults, too, when they are used to be proactive and productive.
