My third attempt at dutch oven cooking didn't turn out as I expected but it tasted great! It was basically just a brownie mix but the oven got tilted thus creating a half baked brownie cake with "lava" oozing from one side. We topped it with a flaming marsh mellow for Paul to blow out and served it with a roasted marsh mellows on top of each serving. I should have just stuck a few on top during the last 2 minutes of cooking but that may have ruined my oven.
Even though the cake wasn't cooked evenly Paul noted that this year's birthday was way better than last year's.

Happy birthday, Paul! Emma's all time favorite birthday party was up the canyon with dutch oven peach cobler. The only drawback with the cobler was that when we put the candles in they immediately melted, so we had waxy peach cobler. Looks like you're having a great trip!
ReplyDeleteIf you ask my children, they will tell you that you are fancy. We love lava cakes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Paul!
I am getting a kick out of all this camping stuff. Al complained that we never took her camping.
ReplyDeleteI thought about that and maybe it was true. The older kids were boys with Emily who was a happy camper. We could not afford to do anything else but go camping in those days.
As things eased up, we took our spring breaks in Florida with mostly girls and the deal was to get the best tan before they went bck to High School; that meant getting burned at Coaco beach and Marco Island.
It is fun to see you discovering the joys of camping with little kids. A 20 foot Yurt is pretty big.
Love, Dad
