Never leave children unattended

Even for a minute!

The above photo was recreated within arms reach of a responsible adult.  It had to be documented.

The three youngest were content watching Baby Noah while the older three were outside. I needed to run upstairs to chat with my mom for just a minute and made the mistake of telling Maryanna (not yet 4 at the time) to watch Henry.  She went above and beyond, this is what I saw when I ran downstairs not more than 2 minutes later.  I gasped loud enough for my mom upstairs to come down and check on us.

If it is not clear from the picture, Maryanna some how balanced Henry on a baby folding chair on top of a side table on top of a child size rocking chair.  It took me two tries to recreate that because the rocking chair is so unstable.  Not only that Henry weighs 28 lbs and Maryanna had to somehow lift him well above her shoulders with out knocking down the stacked furniture.  I honestly don't know how she did it and I am still wondering what she was thinking at the time.  I want to laugh but I'm also grateful because I know someone else must have been watching out for him at that moment.

I believe guardian angels are one of the tender mercies allotted to us mothers of  very young children.  I believe my mom could write a whole chapter on it and hope she gets to writing her book soon.

  1. Oh, boy... You've got a creative little girl.
Was Henry acting happy like in the picture?

When my mom told me to watch the baby at Maryanna's age, I gathered all the blankets I could get my hands on from all over the house and put them on the sleeping baby. I carefully laid each layer on top. The baby got pretty warm.

  5. How did she even think of that, let alone do it?

  6. Wow...the corners of the folding chair 'just' hit the corners of the table. Future structural engineer or architect.

  7. That is great! It's all a perfect fit and works!

I would like to add what happened to us last week. Matilda used a large mirror (one of those cheap ones for doors) as a bridge between her bed and julianna's bed. then she crawled onto it. I heard a really loud crash and a scream and there was blood and broken glass everywhere. luckily it was just cuts that required bandages. she'll probably always have the scars on her knees. Scott was really freaked out and said it could have been much worse.
