Sunshine and Sewing

The sun decided to show its beautiful face here in Michigan after a long gray winter.  We are enjoying it so much that there's been little time left for blogging, and barely enough for sewing.

In celebration of the coming spring I sewed up these dance leotards for the girls.  These are from Kwik Sew pattern 3507 they proved to be quick.  I spent more time switching the serger thread than on actual construction.

Though made from a cotton/spandex velour I believe the design is seasonless.  At least I anticipate the girls wearing these frequently without question of the weather outside.  Here they are in action, the girls like to pair them with their clogs because I'm told clogs make great toe shoes.

It did get chilly as the sun set but Clara found a simple solution.

Maryanna chose not to mix up the leotard with tights and mittens.  She found a sunny spot inside instead.

Here are a few close ups of the flower details I added.

In the end it got too cold and both girls ended up dancing by my side as I prepared dinner.  Do you know this tiny kitchen space also doubles as a dance floor?  Even for the mom.

Meanwhile the boys found time for their own sewing and food prep.  This is a gourmet meal Peter and William sewed up for Herky the Hawkeye - it is a hot dog and three pot stickers.  They found the pattern in my Japanese felt food book and although they did most of it by hand, I was impressed they figured out how to thread my sewing machine.  I am told this is the first of large menu that will be offered at "Herky's Hamburgers", a gourmet restaurant for stuffed animals.

  1. I just love it that you find time to make fun things for your children! These leotards tickle my fancy even if I am way too old to ever wear one of those anymore.
The flower details make it very special.

  2. Marie'-

I'm so glad you said that because I kept thinking the same thing. I am a little jealous of what my girls get to wear everyday.

The girls actually cut out lots of rainbow hearts to sew on but it didn't work - I'm glad the flowers were "acceptable" to them

  3. Hi Mommymita - I would love to hear more about your time growing up and how that has shaped you as a parent now.

I came from a small family and now have 6 children - I want to have more fun!! but I get distracted by the housework and worry about it not being as neat as my home was growing up.

Big family insider tips greatly appreciated (not the practical ones, more the inner working of the mind and heart of a large family mommy)

I love and adore your blog .))

  4. Hello tranquility -

I am so happy you've stopped by here. It is with great joy that I have connected with wonderful women just like you who share the beautiful vision of motherhood.

I am pondering your request for the inner workings of a mother's heart and mind. I believe motherhood has become a spiritual transformation for me. Perhaps I have shared that between the lines, perhaps I have been too guarded. But just in typing this I recognize there may be an opportunity to share and strengthen on a deeper level.
So thank you for your comment, I will take that as an invitation to open myself more as I feel compelled.

Look forward to checking in on your blog too!
