I call these "heirloom peasant pillowcase jammies". Emily gave me the pillowcases which I believe belonged to my Grandma and I knew I could put them to good use. I have seen many pillowcase dresses but my girls weren't in need of dresses - they needed cool comfy jammies. Then again, there is a fine line between Jammies and day clothes in our home ie. Peter's Spiderman shirt, "postpartum pajama days", and Maryanna's experimental outfits.
Last night I traced a dress pattern from a Japanese sewing book (I have quite a collection now - thanks Marie'! and will blog about it later). The actual sewing was quick except for my mistake in making the elastic too tight (twice! caution don't sew when you are over tired). Anyways, I'm happy with the outcome and especially like how they are so soft and worn in. Hopefully I won't get the urge to iron them like I do other nightgowns - there's just no time in my day for those finest of details. I'm also hoping Clara is officially over her diaper curiosity because these jammies aren't so "safe".

Al --they turned out darling. I love making new things out of old things. Too bad my girls are too little for this project. Grandma McEntire would be so proud these did not go to waste.
ReplyDeleteEmily- if you have an old sheet you could make them Jammies!
ReplyDeleteAl, Those jammies are so pretty I think they could double as dresses! You are so talented...
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to showcase the embroidery work on the pillow cases! Your girls look darling in them.
ReplyDeleteIs that chair a recent find? I can't remember if I saw it when I was there.
Marie'- We've had the chair for years it is just tucked away in my bedroom
ReplyDeleteI did however find a great dresser for the girls room just this morning! I needed it for when Henry graduates from the bassinet in my room to the baby room. The girls will then share a room - I'm really in for some excitment then! I'm sure they'll get into all sorts of trouble together.
I love, love, love those! and if your in a rush the next day they could TOTALLY pass for adorable sun dresses :) I really need to learn how to sew.
ReplyDeleteNicole - these last couple of projects are super simple! As long as you have a good machine I'm confident you could whip them up.
ReplyDeleteNext time you are in UT we'll have a project day!
They turned out so cute! I'm so impressed that you still find time to sew. I'm hoping once the basement is completely finished and we move everything in that I can set up my machine and start sewing again. Having to take the machine out of the closet every time you want to make something doesn't encourage me to sew frequently.
ReplyDeleteHey Al, you are quite productive even-though you are still recovering from the last baby. It was fun having you guys over!
