Felicity's Dress

Okay, now the dolls officially have 1 outfit and 1 nightgown (plus 6 pairs of plastic shoes from Target).  I hope that is enough to entertain them because sewing doll clothes is not the relaxing kind of sewing I enjoy.

This one is a variation of a McCall's 18" doll pattern and the fit was overall too big.  Next time I'll stick to the original American Girl pattern downloads or just wing it with my own crude doll pattern drafting.

For all the pains of sewing this little dress I have to admit it was fun to do it with Maryanna looking over my shoulder giving me design suggestions and clapping with joy each time a small detail was put into place.

  1. That is one cute dress. And yes, lots of details. Good for you. how did you put the heart on the pocket? By hand?

  2. The little heart was Maryanna's idea since kirsten's apron had a heart. I just drew it on lightly with pencil then did free hand machine stitching with the feed dog down. I went over it twice.

  3. These doll dresse are beautiful. Be grateful you still have children who clap with joy when you do something for them, they don't do that anymore when they're teenagers :-)

  4. Al - this turned out so nice. I think you should sew all the clothes from that free pattern. They are perfect. Was it hard to alter? The clothes I have made are a little wide.

  5. How did you whip that out so fast? I still haven't even cut out my doll clothes. Both dresses look great.
