A wrap is pretty much a specially woven piece of fabric. I first tried it with 5 yards of discount silk but that proved to be way too uncomfortable. So I bought a didymos from a kind lady off craigs list. Even used they are pricey but after trying one on I discovered it to be so great that I needed more than just one.
The tying is not as hard as it looks - it just took a few youtube videos and practice in front of a mirror to get it right. When I get good I'll post my own video here. There are so many ways to wrap and wear it but for me the back feels the most comfortable.
What more can I say than I wish I had this with my first baby! This is by far my favorite baby carrying device. I can cook (even stir fry), bend and do laundry, work in the garden, wash dishes, and sew all with a very content baby (and sometimes toddler) on my back.
Not only that, these wraps fulfill more than one of my intentions.......to be nurturing and practical all with a bit of style.

o.k. It looked like it would hurt on the facebook picture. But now I see that it is supported more like a backpack. If I could figure out how to get the contraption on .. maybe it would work. Remember when we went up to NYC and you carried William in a sling the WHOLE time?! If only you had this carrier ...
ReplyDeletecool...
ReplyDeleteAl, that wrap looks great on you! Can I have a lesson sometime? I am getting nervous about handling Emily and another baby! Karen
ReplyDeleteI completely missed this post, Al. As I clean out my house for the move, I am finding all kinds of wraps, slings, mei tais, and other experiments around. In fact, I just threw out my first wrap that I made from Wal-mart cheap fabric. Too much give in it and I realized I should just buy the darn moby wrap. So I did. What was the difference between the moby and didymos? I just remember the didy was very expensive and I loved my moby wrap, so I never went back to check out a didy. I'm so glad you found use with TBW. It can be addicting to check them all out. thank goodness for the FSOT forum...you can recycle them there (or at least I told myself I would yet I never did!).
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a baby to carry around in all these lovely contraptions I have...maybe some day. I'm not tossing them yet! ;)
