Spring Sling

After borrowing my sister Mary's Hot sling I decided I needed one for myself.

The design was simple enough to replicate so I sewed one up and George likes it.

It seems I have added a new wear your baby contraption with each new baby and if I didn't already have so many I'd be tempted to make a few more of these slings in several different colors and prints.

What I like about it is that it is made of a woven cotton Lycra giving it a little bit more snugness with out feeling too tight.  I also like the padded band in front for the baby to rest his head on or let his feet hang out without discomfort.

Here is the list of other carriers I like and use.  They all have pro's and con's but one thing's for sure I love to cuddle my babies and have free hands too.

Baby Bjorn (actually I don't love this one but Paul does)
New Native
Maya wrap
Moby wrap
Kelty
Baby Becco

  1. Al! What a great sling! I've yet to wear a sling or Baby Bjorn for more than 10 minutes. My neck gets too sensitive and I start getting a headache .. or maybe I haven't NEEDED one yet. I think you need to take a picture of all your your slings and post something on the mom look blog. ha!

  2. I never did use a sling with my four babies! It was until number four that I even heard much about them. I had the baby bjorn.

Great job making one! You look great too and baby George is sure getting big!

Thanks for the reference on the cook book. I am excited to check it out. I wonder if my library would have it?

The milk is so good but a little costly. We've talked of getting a goat someday . . . Ben was raised on goat's milk.

    Have a great night!

  3. I love it how you just "Whip up" something you see from a store--no fair. George is so scrumptious, I want to hold him. I agree, I LOVE slings and carriers. I feel like I got more done when Ally was a baby and contained in a little aparatus--but I guess they all have to grow up some time. So CUTE!

  4. I am telling you. You are like a Japanese mom! My mom didn't carry any of us because she has a bad back from her gymnastic days, but all my friends' moms always wore their babies. I love your shirt too. So, what projects do you want to start with me?

  5. Yay for babyslings! You are one super cute mama with your hotsling! Those are great, I tested one with Bennett and always wished it would have had a way to adjust the tightness. Never felt safe to bend over or go comletely hands free like a baby bjorn or maya wrap. Maybe their next version will? Or maybe you should figure that out for them and patent it!! :) You are amazing!!

  6. Alexis- I agree that babies feel safer in other slings that is why this is just for comfortable church going or hanging out.

They do have an adjustable hot sling now but I'd still worry about the security of it,

  7. Very cool, I love that you just whip something up every time you find a need. You are very resourceful! I should give the sling a chance again with Porter. Anyway, just thought I'd comment so you'd know I was reading and you're welcome to come check out my blog anytime.

  8. That looks like a good way to do it. What do you do about twins?

  9. My baby hawk is my absolute favorite sling. I, too, have a moby, many hotslings, baby bjorn, and a couple of no-name slings. But by far, the baby hawk is the most awesome-est. On your back, on your front, so easy!! Padded straps, small enough for a diaper bag, it is awesome. Now, if only I had a baby to put in the darn thing...

  10. What a beautiful family you're growing! And I am incredibly impressed with all the amazing projects you put out! (and Spanish speaking 2 yr olds) I'm expecting my first in November !! I want to sew up a couple slings myself. My mom is sewing me a hug-a-bub and I want to try something like the Mayan wrap (which hugabub makes also- the Aussie version!). Any tips on sewing one of those? You are amazing! ~Alana Corr (Perriton)ps. I am definitely going to try out reusable diapers. You are amazing to make them! I found a great brand to buy though for those without a snap machine and killer sewing skills! the pop-in by ozbabytrends
