Baby Burritos

The past couple of nights our little Henry has been busting out of his burrito. I'm really in need of some rest so I'm hoping these new aden and anais swaddling blankets do the trick tonight. I picked them up along with a few other essentials at our local lactation station and like them because they are soft, lightweight, and large enough for swaddling big babies.
All of my babies except one loved being swaddled and there is certainly no guessing which one refused to be contained even at such an early age. So here's hoping for a good night's (or at least 3 hour) sleep.

  1. It worked - I got a 5 hour stretch of sleep! Thank you Henry and thank you Aden and Anais!

  2. I'm glad it worked, Al! I was going to tell you if it didn't to email me and I'd send you one of my miracle blankets. Those work great! I used it with Benjamin until about 4 months, so I know it works on a bigger baby.

  3. A 5 hour stretch?! That is awesome!! I'm so glad it worked. I also find that a really good full feeding helped my bigger babies to sleep better too. They just get hungry :)

  4. Maybe it was just a one time deal for all the lack of sleep the past couple of nights.

Caryn, what is a miracle blanket? I had a swaddling blanket for the other kids that worked great but was flannel and a bit too warm for this time of year.

  5. I didn't swaddle Griffin and I swore that was why he didn't sleep well...the inexperience of first-time mommy, I guess. So a friend recommended I get one of the miracle blankets. Not easy to get them out of in the middle of the night for diaper changes, but conversely, not easy to wriggle out of if you are a crazy baby! They were expensive, but they really worked! http://www.miracleblanket.com/index.htm

  6. Oh, and by the way, Benjamin was sleeping 5-6 hours EVERY night by 3 weeks and 8-10 by 8 weeks. Although that stopped once some of his health issues started, when swaddled, he almost always gave me a 5-hour stretch!

  7. Do you think it is too late to start swaddling a 15 month old? haha. Mine still doesn't sleep through the night. She is the reason we will probably stop having children, or at least for a long while! Actually I tried to burrito her and she only liked it if her arms were out ( i guess that is half a swaddle). She is full of fire!

  8. caryn- Thanks for the link - the blankets look like a great tool. If these ones fail me I may order one. Mary is going to have her baby very soon. You need to contact her and give her this great tip.

Nicole- you are so funny! when I saw the blanket video I actually thought if they made them big enough it might be a good time out tool - I guess it is kind of like a straight jacket.

  9. Alison-
I loved my Aden and Anais that I picked up at a baby show last year. BUT... after a few weeks, Bennett wriggled out of them b/c they have alot of 'give'. So, we graduated to 'Swaddle Designs' swaddle blanket from Nordstrom that a friend gave me. It's so large that I swaddled Bennett until he was 5 months old!! It was magic! Good Luck- he is PRECIOUS in this photo by the way.

  12. That blanket almost makes me feel like I can handle another baby. I WISH I knew about when Shaela was "fresh".
