Twice a year I give the kids a blank canvas on which they carefully plan and paint. The process takes about three days first with a pencil sketch, then two days to paint. I encourage them to take their time and enjoy the process.
My favorite part is listening to them talk and watching them standing back to admire and assess their work.
It makes me happy to have my home decorated with their work and I think it makes them happy too.
Maryanna says her painting is of two girls doing a rollie pollie dance in a garden.
Clara says her painting is of two girls chewing bubble gum and smelling flowers. They also like to pet cats and dogs but they were in the house.
Peter's is about The Transcontinental Railroad.
Henry says "green, blue, red" then "hands" because his hands got messy from the paint.
William's painting was inspired by a Playmobil helicopter flying over a landscape.
James says his is not finished but it is of Lehi's dream.

This is a great idea! I think you should submit it as a guest post to Latter-day Homeschooling. We are always looking for guest writers and we need more idea posts! I also like your idea about having the children draw a picture from the GAK. ☺
ReplyDeletelove that idea Al
ReplyDeleteGreat project! How did you collect that much canvas? I love working with canvas because you can paint and hang it without need a frame or matte. I love the pictures. Their composition is very good ... maybe they all have knack for art ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Al. All week Will and I have been creating Delicate Arch out of clay and paint and plastic knives for supports. It's been so fun and I told Will that we needed to do more creative things together. THis is just the thing!
ReplyDeleteLove it! So do they get to hang them up in their rooms?
ReplyDeleteJudi - these got prime placement over the fireplace. We just replace to previous ones.
ReplyDeleteDont laugh too hard at this pic but behind you will see paintings from two years ago on display
