Happy Homemade Messes

The Bagel business has been a great success so far.  That is except for a few piles of flour dumped around the kitchen and several flour footprints trailing through our home.

Peter is not old enough for the mixing, measuring, and forming of bagels so he will start out as a sweeper then work his way up in the business.  He is in line to  begin training in the rolling and forming.

William heads up advertising and marketing, and also helps with distribution and delivery.  He will soon start his training in weighing out the ingredients.

James just got promoted as head mixer and ingredient weigher.  He also assists in the rolling and forming and is head of accounting, customer orders and relations.

Paul graciously took the position as head pan washer and also over sees the distribution and delivery of our goods.  He still serves as our in house consultant.

That leaves me as the sole boiler and baker at 5:30 am.  I actually like the quiet of the morning and if it wasn't for lack of sleep I would offer our bagels more than once a week.

We are working hard, making messes, cleaning up,  and having fun with the whole process.  But I am tired and told Paul "it is hard to make a buck isn't it"  - he laughed and said "Maybe we should have tried this years ago".

  2. I love the picture! Reminds me of the day I left a 50 pound bag of flour out. Emma was about 2 at the time, and found that flour was great to play in. It was one of those moments that you either cry or you run to get the camera and have a good laugh. Fortunately, that day I found the camera!

  3. Al --I like that each of your boys have their own responsibilities. Peter's sweeper job looks fun.

  4. Al, I wish there were 45 less miles between us! I would die for one of those bagels. Two summers ago when we lived near Mary I ordered salt bagels from her. It was the best to have a warm salt bagel with cream cheese. OOOHH. My mouth is watering. BTW, am I the only person on earth that loves salt bagels?

  5. Al- So how much have you made off the bagels? I couldn't find bagels in mexico so there may be a market, but the kitchen is only 13 ft long. maybe paul could train james how to trade stocks online... lesss messy Ha Ha :)

  6. Suz- I would argue that trading stocks is even messier! I like the idea of my kids offering something real to the world. There are enough greedy money handlers out there.......this is suppose to be character building you know.

  7. Funny post. It reminded me of the pecking order in the kitchen of the Rattatouie movie.
