I have found another use for my multiple baby wraps - kid hammocks! One of the ladies at The Little Seedling suggested I try it, she promised it would help us get through winter. Oh how grateful I am for her suggestion. It is a perfect spot for quiet time. I usually have at least 2 set up at any given time but have capacity to get 5 going at once (that is if we happen to clear the kitchen table).
Here they are in action - baby wraps are my favorite mothering tool!

No babies here, but I want one of those. What fabric is it made out of?
ReplyDeleteMy kids would have so much fun with those! How many yards of material does it take? And is it knit?
ReplyDeleteThese are heavy duty woven specifically for even distribution of weight.
ReplyDeleteMarie'- these are about 4 1/2 yards long - but the width is only about 25- 30 " wide. Baby wearing is huge in Japan so have your mom look around to see if they sell this specific type fabric by the yard. Or experiment with what you have.
Chocolate on my Cranium-
These are not knit, I believe knit would sag too much. These are 4 1/2 yards long but there is a lot of slack up top if you are only using it for that purpose. Also as I mentioned to Marie' they are not as wide as regular cotton. Regular cotton may tear but go ahead and experiment.
But with a baby on the way I highly recommend the investment in a woven wrap. You could even start now wearing Hershey on your back :) They are pricey but a lot more comfortable than regular fabric wrapped and way more comfortable than any other baby wearing gear. thebabywearer.com has a forum to buy used wraps from other mamas but they are still $$$ because they hold their value. There is also a forum on there to make your own
Camille's so jealous of the baby wrap hammock! Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI just thought of something - you all could go to a thrift store and pick up some old woven table cloths and see if they work. You may have to cut down the middle so they are not so wide.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I am going to try it right now!!! thanks

Thanks for the info! I've used baby carriers (more like slings, etc.) but have never really tried wraps before. I will definitely look around for one to buy.
