Clothes for a growing baby

Henry is growing and there wasn't much available for him in my baby boy storage bin.  Either the older boys wore them all out or he is off season for this size.

I traced 7 patterns from various Japanese pattern books and have them all cut out.  I challenged myself to use only what I have; that means I was even cutting into some of Paul's old clothes.

This little jacket was made from the denim I picked up at NPS and lined with some green sweatshirt fleece that I picked up on my second trip to NPS. I would have liked to use corduroy and a more neutral color lining but I stuck to the challenge and am pleased with the result. It is actually reversible but I think he'll wear the denim side out more.

  2. Since tracing patterns and cutting out fabric is my least favorite part of sewing, I am jealous that you have seven pieces ready for fun sewing. The denim will be great into the spring.

Quinn is wearing 18-24 now and will likely be 2T by summer. I just checked his clothes bin, and it looks like I have to sew up some summer clothes for him.

  3. Wow! It turned out darling!

I'd like to know more about the pattern books you mentioned. I need to start sticking with the material I have too. I have a whole closet full for goodness sakes!

  4. Marie'- Baby clothes are nice because they are so small and easy to trace and cut out. I also appriciate the fake pockets and snaps - that makes it very quick for sewing. What size will you be sewing for Quinn this summer? 100 or 90?

Chocolate on my Cranium - Marie' has me hooked on Japanese pattern books, I have about 10 of them from babies to women and children. I've liked the simple designs and fit. The ebay store "Simply Pretty Japanese Bead Books" is my favorite source because they post a lot of the pictures and you can see what you are getting. Check out the "felt vegtables and fruit" under the felt books - that is the one that I think would be fun for young girls.

  5. You continue to inspire me to the importance of teaching my children to sew. I remember a few years back, Pres. Hinckley encouraging the young women to learn to sew and what a blessing that you be. You are like living proof!
I don't sew well, but my girls love to sew and I encourage them all I can.
