An Early Start

I threw this breakfast porridge together in the crockpot last night and was happy to wake up to an already cooked breakfast.  I was also very pleased that all my children liked it and requested that I make it "at least twice every three weeks".

Even more funny is this:  today is Friday the 13th but the kids insisted "Friday the 13th is not unlucky at all - we were so lucky to have such a yummy breakfast"

I got the idea out of the Super Baby Food book. Here it is:

Whole Grain Crockpot Breakfast

2 cups whole grains (I used 1/2 cup sweet brown rice, 1/2 cup barley, and 1 cup Kamut)
2 peeled and chopped apples
1/2 cup chopped dried fruit or raisins
5 cups water
1/4 tsp cinnamon

Cook overnight on low and serve with a little honey (or other sweetener - we used coconut flakes) and milk.

  1. I am feeling really guilty here. I gave Quinn left over sugar cookie from the batch I delivered to the classrooms this morning. At least no frosting.

    Where do you get Kamut?

  2. Hey Al,

I haven't looked at your blog in a while but and just wanting to say hi. We used to eat whole grain cereal..it was the one thing my dad would cook. He called it Slumgullion and I think we liked it just because of the name.
    Miss you!

  5. I'm off to make this... it's snowing tonight and they've already canceled school for tomorrow. This will be a fun surprise when we wake up... and the snow too of course!
