Why didn't anyone take me here before?

Cheryl finally convinced me to go with her to the NPS store here in Salt Lake.  I was resisting the trip because I'm not really in need of anything and since we still plan to move (as soon as our house sells) I should be doing the opposite of shopping and start cleaning out.  But she got me by saying "come on, it will be like a winter garage sale - who knows what we'll find".

And yes I found!  There was a whole section of roll ends from clothing manufacturers all priced below $3 a yard.  On this particular day there was an additional 50% off so I ended up with 20 yards for less than $40.
From left to right here's what I selected:  pink sweatshirt fleece, dark stretch denim, novelty print cotton batiste (I'm thinking 4th of July dresses for the girls), plaid flannel (I bought all 11 1/2 yards and hope to make next year's Christmas jammies),  cotton home dec print (another apron), orange silky print.

Sometimes I know what I'm going to make and sometimes I need to play with the fabric before the project comes to me.  Either way Cheryl said she found my shopping weakness and yes it is fabric.  An old BYU professor once told us instead of going to movies she would buy fabric because even if she didn't sew it up it provided a lot of entertainment just thinking about all the things she could make with it.  I don't intend on becoming a fabric collector so I'll be sure to sew up a few projects before I allow myself to go back there again.

  1. So jealous! Love the denim and the orange for the apron.

  2. I sooooo wish I had learned to sew from my mom. She tried to teach me a few times and I do know some basics, but not enough to attempt making anything.

  3. I especially love the fabric that you will turn into an apron. have fun!! This is why I have to limit myself from going to the fabric district in downtown LA too often. Every time I go I spend way too much so my general rule is that I am not allowed to return until I sew everything(or almost) I previously bought.

  4. I stopped by there with my aunt in Sept! She is an NPS addict. I completely forgot to tell you about it... it's kind of a treasure hunt, but fun. I found some random things! Looks like you scored!
