Thanks for all the movie recommendations! I have enough titles to fill our que for several months and may even write a few reviews of our favorites.
But since there were no fresh movies for us to watch today I pulled out the FIMO clay that was originally intended for homemade Christmas ornaments but didn't arrive at our door until Jan. 9. It's just as well because we had enough activities to keep us busy over the holidays, today was a perfect day for sculpting.
James made the first of many flag magnets, Sweden's for Nanny and Poppy and the Swiss flag is for Oma and Opa . The other two, U.S.A. and Nigeria, he's keeping for himself.
William made the Weasley's flying car and Whomping Willow from Harry Potter book 2.
I just discovered the girls love to bead pipe cleaners - it actually keeps them busy. So I made the beads for them. I also experimented with a big colorful button and may stick it on that sweater I'm suppose to finish for Henry.
It is not a good project for younger children so the girls did play dough while poor little Peter was sick in bed. He thought the clay was one of his birthday presents because it arrived just before his birthday party - it will be fun to see what he'll creaate when we try this again.

We love this clay. We have spent countless summer hours making beads, buttons, and whatever else the kids came up with. I love the vivid colors. Hope Peter is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteDid you purchase them individual or as a set? They turned out cute.
ReplyDeleteWe love that clay here, too. If only it was cheeper, I would let my kids do it all the time. Jerome made a nativity with this clay one year, and it was the cutest thing. We loved the googly eyes. My mom asked for it and took it home. I still regret letting her do that because when I asked him to make another set for me, he didn't want to. His interest had moved on.
ReplyDeleteJerome and Asha are into origami big time right now. Jerome got the 500 sheet origami paper from Michaels and they are folding away. Our library has a good selection of origami instruction books. His favorite so far is the scorpion. He has that one memorized.
try this one.

I really like the flag idea. That would be a great activity to go along with a homeschool lessons about other countries.
ReplyDeleteI used to love fimo! We used it all the time when we lived in London. You could buy it everywhere there. Thanks for reminding me of such an old fave. Love your creations!
ReplyDeleteAl, my girls loved beading wire. It's really cheap and then you can wind it into window decorations or anything. Once Julianna made Scott a 4 foot piece. They naturally do patterns. my favorite beads came from DI. I then got sick of cleaning them up and out they went. The kids are asking for them again so I'll have to keep my eyes open for them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I see fimo, I always think of Julie. She made some really cute beads. When she was at the UofM hospital for her bone marrow transplant, we spent hours making beads for bracelets for the other patients and nurses. I always thought that was so sweet and unselfish of her. Then the nurses brought their little toaster oven into her room for us to cook them.
