These little leg warmers were intended to be finished by the end of our road trip last Sept. I then hoped to at least have them completed and wrapped up for Christmas, but it wasn't until this week of redbox DVDs and resting that this very simple project came to a close.
I like the final project but I'm wondering if I actually enjoyed the process. It may be because I only knit when I'm not feeling well or when I'm forced to sit, something that is hard for me to do. Maybe it was the size 2 double point needles and the 1x1 rib that was completed in such a small circle that made this project hard to finish. But I did it and I even started another pair. The next pair will be for Maryanna and is out of the same yarn, 70% superfine alpaca/30% angora, but in an avocado green. I'm trying out a 2x2 rib pattern and added 8 extra stitches for ease in working in the round and also just in case I don't finish them until next Christmas.
I also found a size 12 month hooded cardigan that was intended for Maryanna but still unfinished; it has since passed up Clara as well. I am glad I invested in a camel color yarn (merino/microfiber/cashmere) because if I finish it, Henry just may be able to pull it off.
Maybe it is just frustrating that my kids are growing faster than I can knit, maybe I never sit down anymore, or when I am sitting I'm already multi-tasking (reading to a child and feeding a baby), I'm wondering how Soulemama does it, and also wondering if I should give knitting another chance in 2009.

They turned out cute! I remember seeing it when you came up. It is frustrating to see kids grow up so fast.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you do with hand sewn clothes when your kids grow out of them? I gave a few away, but now that I am really into them, I don't know if I can let go.
I am hoping to pick up knitting and crocheting once my younger kids start music lessons. Scott's mom always did that while she supervised Gillian's violin practice. She said it helped her to stay calm and not be too involved, while she gave Gillian the support she needed. She made each family a beautiful crochet blanket.
leave knitting for a machine. I was making fun of rayanne last summer for knitting socks. Did you add me to your friends, blogs list? I am updating it now!
ReplyDeleteMarie'- I save my favorites but pass the "junk sewing" ones down. I've never crocheted before but thinking of doing some spring hats for the girls. but as I type Henry has grabbed my ball of yarn and is having fun with it like a kitten would - now he's got my power cord!
ReplyDeleteSuz- you once made a cute baby hat, knitting's not all bad but it's just not fitting into my life right now.
I shy away from any type of knitting/crocheting project. I think I learned how to do it long ago, but can't seem to gain any interest whatsoever in picking it up and actually making something. I'll stick to sewing and smocking.
ReplyDeleteThose leg warmers turned out very cute.
Cute leg warmers - and great pictures.
ReplyDeleteI have given up on knitting as well - my kids are growing faster than I can knit. I started a winter hat for Andrew when he was 1 - he grew and then I thought I will give it to Anthony (now 3). Now he is too big. I guess there is still a chance for Austin to wear it if I finish it before next year. I think it is hard to find time to sit and work on it. Also, I am usually set back also by the boys pulling out the needles for sword fights, unraveling the stitching, and tangling the yarn.
Thanks to H&M and old navy - the boys do have some winter hats that fit them this year.
They turned out so cute. Is this too hard a project for Caroline? She would love them.
ReplyDeleteI think there is a time and season for everything. I don't think I would have knitted much when my kids were younger, but now I spend a lot of time at sports games, ortho appointments, piano lessons, etc. I love having something to keep my hands busy while I'm waiting. Try using 9" circulars instead of double points. The leg warmers turned out cute and so warm for these freezing January mornings.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, I still haven't finished the hat from the family reunion in 2005.
